Supporting Parents as Positive Role Models

A quick survey using Google search under the heading "Parents as Anti-Drug Instructors" reveals nothing on parents being the best anti-drug counselors. Much is shown for DARE or the partnering of the police, teachers, and parents in bringing an anti-drug message to the youth of our country. Completely absent is any notion or thought that parents can be the best role models. But from our experience, we know and see the results of parents exerting their influence in bringing the anti-drug, alcohol, smoking, and premarital sex message to their children. And Bios Christian Academy enthusiastically supports them.

How do we show such enthusiastic support? First and foremost, we pray for our parents. The reality of life is nothing is more relevant than seeking God's favor and mercy for our fellow Christians. Next, we hire mature Christians for the purpose of supporting our parents. That support is presented by providing an excellent education in a safe environment. The teachers and support staff are people who do not get drunk on wine or high on drugs. By their words and actions, they support our parents anti-messages.

But there is much more to our support than an anti-message. Because of the clear educational goals, a work ethic supported and trained, examples and expectations of showing respect to their neighbor, and a community working towards supporting all of the Bios students for their future after graduation; students daily live a life without reason to turn towards abusive lifestyles.

All of the previous discussion is a very complete waste of time if our students eyes have not been opened to the reality of Jesus. In my daily readings from His word today in John 8 and 9, the Pharisees and many other Jews hated Jesus and his message. But constantly throughout the reading are " ... many who put their faith in him." While we cannot save anyone, we can work diligently towards preparing them for that hope.

Through our expectations, through our teachers, and through our prayer, Bios Christian Academy is here to support our parents in the training of their children.
