At Bios, we already enjoy the fruits of our excellent science teachers, Mrs. Ihms and Mrs. Fletcher, with over 25% of our graduates declaring a science major when they graduate from our campus. But for our enthusiastic and skilled instructors, it has not been easy these past four years maintaining a practice of excellence in science for the 7-12 grades. Because of our arrangement with our temporary location, both teachers take down all of their labs and science equipment twice a week, putting all into a ten by ten storage room and pulling it out to be placed in the proper location twice a week. In addition, water is from the restrooms when needed for labs. That will all change soon.
A pair of science areas will be built in the Middle Academy at the new facility on Lindsay Road. The two science educators and myself recently met with a very generous donor who will provide for two fully equipped science rooms to meet the learning needs of all of our 7-12 grade students. Everything including lab stools, epoxy resin table tops, two sinks with filtered water dispensers along with regular tap water (one of which will have an eye wash attached), a refrigerator, an ice maker, "L" shaped teacher desks, shelves for storage, 120 cubbies for very organized storage, plentiful electrical outlets, a fume hood, and microscope lab tables with floor outlets. It is an investment of over $50,000.
Months of planning and discussions went into the design of the Bios science rooms to provide a work environment that supports our educational philosophy of plentiful hands-on labs with a high amount of teacher/student interaction.
We are looking forward with anticipation to our new facilities for many reasons. One of which is designing learning environments which support our teachers in the unique methods of instructing the students of Bios Christian Academy.
